This might require some thought. If you have a single thing you're trying to get rid of (smell, smoke, etc.) and it's localized in one part of the house (i.e., your spouse smokes in one room or you have a litter box somewhere), put it near that. If not, then you want it out in the middle of a room, because it will better get at the air flow. It doesn't have to be dead center, but basically you shouldn't tuck it behind the couch or somewhere - there should be space around it so the air can get to it. As far as which room, ideally it should be where you spend the most time. Bedrooms or living rooms are usually the prime candidates, but remember that air purifiers usually can only handle so much square footage, so it might be a good idea to put it in a central location. If your house is really big, you may need more than one to handle it properly.
