Portable Air Purifier
There are some models that are actually designed to be used as a portable air purifier. There definitely aren't many of these - most brands are fairly bulky and can't be carried around that easily. There are a few that are smaller and could technically be carried from place to place, but aren't really meant to be used that way. My recommendation if you want portability is to go with the Sharper Image air purifiers - they have a different design from most other brands, and even the full version can be moved around pretty easily.

Portable Air Purifier
Sharper Image's brand is the Ionic Breeze. It's probably not the best brand in terms of effectiveness - there are others that have gotten higher ratings in consumer testing by Consumer Reports. They do, however, beat out virtually all other air purifiers in terms of finding a portable air purifier. Why? Partly this is because they have a couple of sister products that you can use very easily in other locations. One of these is a plug in air purifier that looks a lot like a bathroom air freshener. If you've got access to a plug, you can take this somewhere and use it as a low-quality air purifier. It's not the full thing, but it can help you out. They've also got a "Desktop" air purifier that is small and designed to be placed on a desk - so you could easily use it in your office as well. Finally, there is a version designed specifically for use in the car. Even if you don't want any of these variations, the regular Ionic Breeze is pretty small itself. Whatever situation you are in, you should be able to find one of these units that you can carry around with you to where you'll need to use it. My recommendation would be to look for one of their special offers - often, they will bundle the sister products with the original Ionic Breeze. You can see this in some of their television ads - it's a great way to have one cleaner for at home and a smaller one for at work.
