One of the potential air purifier products you should consider is an ion air purifier. These basically use a device that will ionize particles in the air - charging them, so that they become attracted to surfaces and thus fall out of the air. That way, you won't be breathing them in because they aren't floating around everywhere. With some brands, this can have the negative side effect of leaving a lot of dust around the machine - the particles will all fall to the floor. Others have internal devices designed to attract the dust to a surface in the purifier before it gets out again.

One other important thing to remember is that an ion air purifier will not necessarily only have that one method of cleaning out the air. With most products, you'll find more than one technique being used. For instance, ion air purification techniques can only get at dust, allergens, smoke - things of that sort. It won't kill bacteria, and it may not get all the particles, and it can cause some to adhere to surfaces that you may not want dust on. So many companies put in other layers of air purification technology - UV filters to kill off the germs, or a scented addition to the air to overwhelm odors, or other techniques to get rid of the gases. You need to know what all these different techniques do - some, for example ozone purification, are not recommended and may cause health hazards. Others you may not care about that much, or may cause you a little bit of hassle (for instance, depending on how often you need to change filters, whether you need to buy a new one, etc.).
