Info on Filterless Air Purifiers
Nearly every air purifier uses some sort of filter. This
causes considerable frustration among buyers, because a number of them are
extremely expensive. Some filters cost as much as the air purifier itself did
originally. How do you get around this problem? You could go for a filterless
air purifier - the problem, however, is that most of these aren't that
effective at getting rid of dust or other things from the air. There are
technologies such as uv ray based air purifiers that only kill germs - but
that doesn't take anything out of the air. There are ionizers, which don't
need a filter because they are only charging the particles in the air. The
problem is that if they are completely without a filter, they'll just make
your house dusty by causing particles to cling to everything. The real
solution? Get an air purifier with a washable filter instead of a replaceable
filter.
How do you know the difference? First of all, if you're dead
set opposed to buying a replacement filter, then you'll need to avoid filters
labeled "HEPA," because these require frequent replacements. They're better
technology in general, but you have to pay for it. Second, read the packaging
or the description online and see if it says anything about how to wash the
filter. This is a good indication that you can just reuse it, because you'll
have to clean it often. That is the downside to trying to get a filterless air
purifier - you'll have to clean the inside of the machine more frequently,
sometimes up to once a week. It depends on what you're trying to clean out of
the air. Some things, like tobacco smoke, are really hard on the air purifier.
On the other hand, your house may be relatively free of particles and you may
not have to do it as much.Return to Air Purifier
