There are a couple of bigger brands that you should take a
look at before you make your purchasing decision. First on the block is
Oreck
- one of the bigger brands out there, and a very good machine. Some of the
benefits of
Oreck
's model is that it can clean a much larger area than many
comparable brands, does a good job of getting rid of pet-related allergens,
and has a fragrance tray to cover odors. It does, however, get pretty loud on
the highest setting.
Honeywell
is another good company to take a look at.
There are simply too many brands made by Honeywell to comment in detail here -
you will find something in virtually any price range from them. One of the
general problems that you may have to deal with is the replacement filter
costs with Honeywell - they use HEPA in many of their products, which is
basically a really advanced filter. However, when you have to replace it (once
a year or so), it will cost nearly as much as the air purifier itself. It gets
you much better coverage, but it is correspondingly more expensive. Finally,
you might look at
Sharper Image
- they've got some specific products for use in the car that are harder to
find elsewhere. There are also dozens of smaller companies, and this consumer
report reviews most of them on the main page.
