Reviews of Alpine Air Purifiers
The Alpine Air Purifier is one of those products you'll have to be a little
more careful about. These have been discontinued, mainly because Alpine got
into some trouble with the Federal Trade Commission, along with the Justice
Department. The trouble centered around claims that Alpine was making in its
advertising about the effectiveness of its air purifier - the FTC took issue
with them, and succeeded in getting a judge to order them to cease making
several claims about how effective they were at preventing diseases and
reducing indoor pollution.
This is basically only available used at this time. You probably aren't
going to find an Alpine Air Purifier new in the stores, but you can
sometimes
get them on Amazon and probably on E-bay. The real
question is whether you'd want to - if the price is right, maybe. But it is
risky to be buying a product with previous complaints about it - many people
get an air purifier because they have serious medical issues, and if you do,
you're going to want to get one that you know will work. Also, it's unclear
whether you'll still be able to get air purifier filters for Alpine Air
Purifier products - I haven't seen them available personally, and many of the
newer brands don't even use the same filtering technology, even if you could
find a generic filter that works with it. My recommendation: just get a new
one.
