This can vary dramatically. There's no really easy way to answer the question - other than that for most brands, it costs nearly as much to get a filter as you had to pay for it in the first place. This is because most use HEPA filters, a fairly expensive technology that is what accounts for most of the cost of the air cleaner. You'll have to replace these about once a year. BUT - most also have a secondary filter that is cheaper ($20-30 usually) and that you will replace more often, but it keeps the HEPA filter from being used as much and therefore helps it last longer. This is something you'll want to check before you buy if possible - know how much you're going to have to pay to keep it going.
